Yoruba leader, Prof. Banji Akintoye, emphasizes the importance of unity among Southwest governors and monarchs to tackle challenges and secure a prosperous future for upcoming generations. Addressing them at a program called “Yoruba Unity Day” in Ibadan, he highlighted the crucial role of traditional rulers in preserving cultural heritage and fostering community cohesion.
Akintoye urged stakeholders to embrace Yoruba Unity Day annually on September 23rd, advocating for its adoption as a public holiday exclusively for the Yoruba people. He emphasized the strong foundation of Yoruba national unity based on cultural pride, historical achievements, respect for community harmony, religious tolerance, hospitality, and the belief in people-oriented governance.
By coming together on Yoruba Unity Day, the Yoruba community can reaffirm their unity and reclaim their esteemed position in Nigeria. Akintoye’s call for solidarity and collective action resonates with the need for a united front to overcome internal and external challenges.
