In the run-up to the by-election for the Kumjeong District Mayor on October 16, Kim Kyeong-ji, candidate for Kumjeong District Mayor, along with party officials, interacted with merchants and citizens to seek support. Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung criticized the government of Yoon Suk-yeol, accusing them of using their power to target someone’s daughter. This criticism was perceived as a direct response to the comprehensive investigation by the prosecution into the ‘daughter-in-law favoritism employment allegations’ surrounding former President Moon Jae-in.
Lee emphasized the need for a change in governance and urged voters to choose the opposition in the upcoming election. Referring to the Democratic Party’s poor performance in the previous general elections in Busan, he acknowledged the shortcomings and vowed to work harder to regain trust. Despite winning only one out of 18 local constituencies in Busan in the last general election, Lee stressed the importance of holding the ruling party accountable.
