The United Nations has raised a red flag over the escalating violence between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, warning that the situation is spiraling out of control. Ravina Shamdasani, a spokeswoman for the UN rights office, expressed deep concern about the recent escalation, citing attacks on communication devices and rocket fire exchanges as indicators of a dangerous escalation.
After a year of cross-border clashes, the recent strikes have been the most intense since the conflict between Israel and Palestinian Hamas militants in Gaza last year. The violence has resulted in numerous casualties on both sides, with Lebanon reporting over 100 deaths and more than 400 injuries due to Israeli strikes.
The UN has condemned the targeting of civilians and called for a de-escalation of the conflict. Shamdasani emphasized that the actions of the parties involved are pushing the conflict to a new level, urging for an immediate halt to the violence.
