A daring search and rescue mission is currently underway in Yellowstone National Park for Austin King, a 22-year-old park concession worker who went missing after a weeklong trek in the Eagle Peak area.
King failed to check in as scheduled and hasn’t been seen since he described treacherous weather conditions on the summit of Eagle Peak to a relative. Despite extensive efforts involving over 20 searchers, two helicopter crews, drones, and canine teams, King remains unlocated.
The search began after King’s encampment and personal belongings were found, but it’s still unclear what happened to his vehicle, a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado with Minnesota plates. Search operations have focused on Yellowstone Lake and Eagle Peak, both popular spots in the vast 2.2 million-acre park.
Temperatures have been challenging, dropping to the high 20s in recent days. King, who is 6 feet tall, 160 pounds, with hazel eyes, was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt and gray pants. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Yellowstone Interagency Communications Center.
