Punjab governor objects to altering top judge’s appointment process – Pakistan.

In a recent conference at Kahuta Law University, Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan expressed his strong opposition to the government’s plan to alter the appointment process for the Chief Justice of Pakistan. He emphasized the importance of merit and criticized the idea of the Prime Minister selecting from a list of candidates. Governor Saleem highlighted past instances where such interference had negative consequences for the government.

He advocated for a justice system that operates on merit, without extensions for retiring officials, and stressed the need for reforms to expedite civil cases. Governor Saleem also called for the establishment of reconciliation courts to resolve issues at the local level and improve the overall justice system for common citizens.

He shed light on the challenges faced by the police force, emphasizing the importance of providing facilities to improve the working conditions in police stations. Governor Saleem reiterated the need for a system based on merit to address societal issues effectively.
