PM’s packed schedule at the UN with back-to-back meetings

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is set to have a crucial meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during the United Nations General Assembly in New York. This meeting is a key part of a series of important encounters for Mitsotakis and Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis.

The discussions could potentially lead to a breakthrough in the strained relations between Greece and Turkey, especially regarding longstanding issues like the division of Cyprus. Mitsotakis will also engage in talks with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address various Middle East developments.

Despite Greece’s support for recent UN resolutions supporting a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine, Mitsotakis is expected to maintain Greece’s stance on Israel’s right to self-defense. The upcoming role of Greece as a non-permanent Security Council member may bring about divergent viewpoints, but Mitsotakis aims to strengthen diplomatic ties while upholding national interests.
