PM Shehbaz to discuss security, climate & global flashpoints at UNGA-Pakistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to address the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Sept 27, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism and global peace. In his address, he will focus on addressing long-standing issues like Palestine and the Kashmir dispute, inequities in international economic relations, climate change, and Islamophobia. As an incoming member of the UN Security Council, PM Shehbaz will emphasize upholding the UN Charter for conflict prevention and global prosperity.

On the sidelines, he will attend high-level meetings on sea-level rise and leadership for peace. Bilateral meetings with world leaders, including the UN secretary-general and the president of the General Assembly, are also scheduled. While no formal meeting with President Joe Biden is planned, informal interactions are expected during various events.

One of the most anticipated meetings will be with Dr Muhammad Yunus, head of Bangladesh’s new caretaker government, reflecting improved ties with Dhaka. The UNGA serves as a vital platform for Pakistan to address key global issues and advocate for sustainable development agendas.
