PDP Alleges Rigging in Edo State Governorship Election

The recent Edo State governorship election has sparked controversy, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alleging rigging in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The declaration of votes by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) showed the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, leading with 291,667 votes, while the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, trailed behind with 247,274 votes.

Concerns over transparency were raised by election observers, with reports of irregularities and discrepancies in the collation of results. The PDP has demanded a re-collation of results to ensure accuracy and fairness in the electoral process.

Despite the controversy, Governor Godwin Obaseki has called for calm and urged the people to seek justice through legal means. PDP governors have also urged INEC to respect the wishes of the Edo people and ensure a free and fair election outcome.

On the other hand, leaders of the APC, including President Buhari, Bola Tinubu, and Senate President Akpabio, have congratulated Okpebholo on his victory and commended the party’s efforts in securing a successful election.
