Mayor of Hamtramck, Michigan, endorses Trump despite disagreements
The mayor of Hamtramck, the only all-Muslim city government in the US, has endorsed Donald Trump for the upcoming presidential election. Amer Ghalib, who leads the city in battleground state Michigan, believes Trump is the “right choice” despite their differing opinions on some issues.
Ghalib stated on Facebook, “President Trump and I may not agree on everything, but I know he is a man of principles.” He confirmed his decision to support Trump and expressed his readiness to face any consequences that may arise.
Trump, in response, reposted Ghalib’s endorsement on his social media platform. The city of Hamtramck made headlines in 2021 for its all-Muslim City Council and mayor. Ghalib, who migrated to the US from Yemen at 17, met Trump recently and discussed issues concerning Arab and Muslim Americans.
Michigan, a crucial swing state, is expected to play a key role in the election between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. Despite polls showing a tight race, Ghalib’s endorsement may influence voters in the state.
