Malaysian police have rescued 187 more children and raided locations linked to an Islamic business group being investigated for alleged sexual assault of children. National police chief Razarudin Husain said the children, including infants, were rescued from welfare homes connected to Global Ikhwan Services and Business (GISB) where shocking abuses were discovered.
Since the case emerged, a total of 572 children under 18 have been rescued and 156 suspects arrested. Some children were sodomized, forced to abuse each other, and suffered physical and emotional trauma. The victims, mainly children of GISB employees, were reportedly indoctrinated from a young age.
Following the king’s call for swift action, police have intensified the investigation against GISB, an Islamic conglomerate with controversial roots. Despite denials of widespread abuse, top management members have been detained. Islamic authorities are also looking into the group’s teachings.
Several bank accounts and properties linked to GISB have been frozen as part of a money laundering probe. The shocking revelations have shocked and enraged the nation, prompting a thorough investigation into the group’s activities.
