Israel attacks Lebanon: Hezbollah and Israel engaged in a series of attacks, with Hezbollah firing over 100 rockets into northern Israel and Israel responding with hundreds of strikes on Lebanon. The escalation followed an Israeli strike in a Beirut suburb that resulted in more than 35 casualties, including three children. A top Hezbollah commander was among the dead.
Hezbollah’s deputy leader spoke of the conflict entering a “new phase” and vowed to respond to the aggression.
The hostilities have displaced thousands along the Israel-Lebanon border and sparked fears of a wider Middle East war. The German government emphasized the importance of preventing the conflict from escalating further, warning of catastrophic consequences for the region. The UN has also called for restraint as tensions continue to rise between Israel and Hezbollah.
