The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is set to launch a pedophile registry this week, aimed at monitoring individuals convicted of crimes against children. The registry, which will be confidential but accessible to institutions for official purposes, has sparked controversy following actor Moamer Kasumovic’s case. Kasumovic paid off a prison sentence for indecent behavior towards a minor, leading to public outrage and condemnation.
Screenwriter Fedja Isovic expressed regret over working with Kasumovic and announced plans to reshoot their series with a different actor. Director Jasmila Zbanic and Deputy Minister Duska Jurisic criticized the justice system’s leniency towards pedophiles, emphasizing the need for stricter measures and efficient implementation of the registry.
In response to the case, Jurisic stated, “Crimes against children cannot be ‘resolved’ with money.” The public outcry highlights the lack of trust in the judiciary and the urgency for a more effective approach to protect children from potential harm.
