A tragic incident occurred at the Yauri river in Kebbi, where a hippopotamus attacked and killed a fisherman named Malam Usman Mai Gadi. The vicious animal attacked while he was fishing, possibly mistaking him as a threat to her newborn baby.
Malam Usman, who worked as a watchman at the emir’s Orchard Farms, often fished to support himself. The local community was saddened by his untimely death, with Governor Idris expressing his condolences to the family and the people of Yauri.
The deceased was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic customs, as prayers were offered for his soul. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of wildlife encounters in the region.
