West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has once again accused the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) of exacerbating the flood situation in the state. She stated that despite reaching out to the central government multiple times, she has not received a response regarding the issue. Banerjee also raised concerns about the DVC’s potential privatization and its impact on flood control.
She called on the central government to allocate a portion of the funds given to political parties during elections towards addressing the Ganga Action Plan and erosion in Malda and adjoining districts. Banerjee emphasized that the lack of action from the central government has led to the current flood crisis in West Bengal.
In response to the situation, two officials from the Bengal government resigned from the Damodar Valley Reservoir Regulation Committee. Banerjee warned of further challenges ahead due to potential heavy rainfall and urged officials to provide necessary support to affected individuals in relief camps.
Despite her efforts to seek intervention, Banerjee expressed frustration with the lack of assistance from the central government in addressing the ongoing flood crisis in West Bengal.
