In a recent development, a second accused in the Sultanpur jewellery store robbery case was killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force in Unnao. This comes after the STF had previously gunned down another accused, Mangesh Yadav, on September 5, leading to allegations of a “fake” encounter from political parties.
The encounter took place in the Achalganj police station area of Unnao, where one criminal was injured and another managed to escape. The injured criminal, identified as Anuj Pratap Singh, was taken to a government hospital for treatment but was declared dead upon arrival.
The robbery at Bharat Jewellers in Sultanpur occurred on August 28, with jewellery worth around Rs 1.5 crore being stolen from the store. The legal proceedings in this case are currently being handled by the forensic laboratory team and the Achalganj police.
