ISWAP Fighters Drown While Crossing River in Yobe

Recent events in Nigeria have unveiled the tragic fate of 17 members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) who drowned while attempting to cross a river in Yobe State. This incident was disclosed by counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, who also reported that Boko Haram terrorists destroyed the Damaturu-Maiduguri 330 Kilovolt transmission line.

A human rights advocate, Evans Ufeli, has taken legal action against the Federal Government, demanding the prosecution of alleged terrorism financiers in Nigeria. The ISWAP fighters met their fate amidst displacement from key bases along the Nigeria-Niger border, showcasing the ongoing battle against insurgency in the region.

Furthermore, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) infrastructure was targeted by insurgents, resulting in a blackout in Maiduguri and its surroundings. TCN condemned the attacks and emphasized the need for safeguarding national assets.

Ufeli’s legal action seeks to compel the authorities to prosecute individuals involved in financing terrorism, highlighting a crucial aspect in combatting insurgency within the country. The court is yet to assign a hearing date for the case, reflecting the complex challenges faced in addressing terrorism-related issues.
