Zelensky to tour US ammo factory making shells for Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to visit the Scranton Army Ammunition Plant during his upcoming trip to the United States on Sept. 22. The purpose of his visit is to present his victory plan to U.S. President Joe Biden and other leaders at the U.N. General Assembly. The Scranton facility, located in Pennsylvania, recently increased production of 155 mm artillery shells from 24,000 to 36,000 rounds per month, benefiting Ukraine’s front lines. This visit holds significance not only for the factory workers but also for the local economy and the upcoming presidential election in Pennsylvania, as it is Biden’s birthplace.

As one of the few plants in the U.S. producing 155 mm shells, the Scranton facility plays a crucial role in supporting Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict. The U.S. has provided over 3 million such shells to Ukraine since the invasion began. The visit also highlights the importance of international support, as Ukraine’s European allies have struggled to fulfill their promises of delivering artillery shells to Ukraine. Overall, Zelensky’s visit to the Scranton ammunition plant underscores the continuing solidarity between Ukraine and its allies in the face of adversity.
