Ukraine’s Defense Minister, Rustem Umerov, has announced the country’s agreement to receive Dassault Mirage 2000 jets, although no specific timeline was provided. Additionally, Ukraine is in talks to acquire Swedish-made Saab JAS 39 Gripen and Eurofighter Typhoon fighters. Umerov mentioned during a televised interview on Sept. 22 that results of these negotiations would soon be announced.
The minister highlighted the importance of pilot training and infrastructure development to gain an advantage in aerial combat. French President Emmanuel Macron also confirmed the transfer of Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets to Ukraine, along with pilot training in France.
Sweden has shown openness to providing Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine once the F-16 program is completed. Ukraine had recently received its first batch of F-16s, with a planned delivery of at least 79 jets from European allies. The cooperation between these nations indicates a strengthening of Ukraine’s defense capabilities in the air.
