Police escort Gov Obaseki out of INEC’s office at Edo election

By Ozioruva Aliu

In a dramatic turn of events, Governor Godwin Obaseki was forced out of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) premises in Benin by DIG Frank Mba at 4:10 am. Obaseki had entered the premises unannounced around 2 am to protest alleged anomalies in the collation of election results from local government areas, including his own Oredo.

INEC officials informed Obaseki that he was not supposed to be there, but he insisted on staying. A team of policemen and soldiers led by DIG Frank Mba escorted Obaseki out of the premises by 4:10 am, as APC National Secretary Surajudeen Basiru criticized the governor’s presence as an abuse of office.

Earlier, APC members led by Dennis Idahosa protested Obaseki’s presence at the INEC office, demanding his immediate exit. Despite their efforts to enter the premises, the protesters were stopped at the gate. The situation escalated until Obaseki was eventually escorted out by security personnel.

This unfolding drama adds further tension to the already heated Edo election atmosphere, as parties await the final results.
