Power Division Recovers Over Rs114 Billion in Countrywide Crackdown on Power Theft
The Power Division in Islamabad has successfully recovered more than Rs114 billion during a nationwide crackdown on power theft, as reported by ARY News. This initiative, led by the Pakistan government and military leadership, aims to strengthen the country’s economy and combat illegal electricity usage.
So far, authorities have apprehended over 84,500 individuals involved in power theft, with significant amounts of money being retrieved across various cities including Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, and Islamabad.
Last September, the caretaker federal government announced plans to address electricity theft as a key factor contributing to the annual loss of Rs589 billion faced by the country’s distribution companies. This crackdown comes in response to widespread protests triggered by inflated power bills, emphasizing the urgent need for reform in the power sector.
Efforts to prevent power theft and improve payment compliance are crucial in reducing the financial burden on distribution companies and ensuring a more sustainable energy system for Pakistan.
