Oman Launches Programme to Enhance Research and Innovation
The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MoHERI) in Oman has initiated a special programme called Tamkeen to elevate the importance of research and innovation in national development. The programme, conducted at the Research and Innovation Lab, aims to assess the current national research and innovation system’s performance, identify key challenges, and propose solutions until October 3.
With a goal to align with Oman Vision 2040 and elevate the country’s ranking in the Global Innovation Index, Tamkeen seeks to foster collaboration among stakeholders for integrated efforts. The Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, H E Dr Rahma Ibrahim al Mahrouqi, highlighted the clinic’s focus on setting up a national research and innovation system to drive economic and social development.
Centered around four key pillars – innovative research structures, technical capabilities, legal frameworks, and funding sources – the clinic aims to address challenges and promote sustainable development. Various funding avenues, including government support and international opportunities, were discussed to enhance research and innovation initiatives.
By forming technical working groups involving academia, government, and the private sector, the programme aims to produce a comprehensive document outlining the system’s current status and recommendations for improvement.
