New York Magazine has placed Washington correspondent Olivia Nuzzi on leave after she disclosed she had a personal relationship with someone relevant to the 2024 presidential campaign. The person in question was Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a former candidate who endorsed Trump after ending his campaign.
A magazine spokesperson stated that Nuzzi would not have been allowed to cover the campaign if her relationship had been known. Nuzzi’s article on Kennedy’s campaign was criticized as a “hit piece” by his spokesperson, leading to an internal review that found no bias or inaccuracies.
The magazine considers Nuzzi’s relationship a conflict of interest and a violation of their standards. While Nuzzi’s reporting was deemed accurate, her personal involvement with a campaign subject during the reporting process led to her suspension.
