In a recent statement at the Odisha Literary Festival, BJD President Naveen Patnaik expressed his party’s intention to conduct a thorough examination of simultaneous elections before forming a stance. Patnaik highlighted the need to review the proposal and its implementation before making a decision. He emphasized, “Let the details come forth, we will study and take a stand,” implying a thoughtful approach to the issue.
Furthermore, Patnaik criticized the deteriorating law and order situation in Odisha under the new BJP government. He specifically mentioned incidents such as the alleged harassment of an Army major and his fiancée at a police station, denouncing the conduct as unacceptable. Patnaik called for a judicial inquiry into the matter, while Chief Minister Mohan Majhi promised strict action against those responsible.
When questioned about the performance of both the state and central governments in their first 100 days, Patnaik refrained from passing judgment, stating that it was premature to do so. With 24 years of service to the people of Odisha, Patnaik asserted his commitment to continue his work as the leader of the opposition.
