Israeli forces conducted a pre-dawn raid on Al Jazeera Arabic’s offices in the West Bank, forcibly closing down their bureau in Ramallah. Dozens of troops entered the building, leading to the confiscation of cameras, documents, and devices. The network’s journalists expressed concerns about the potential destruction of their archives stored in the office.
Crackdown
This raid followed the Israeli government’s ban on Al Jazeera operating within Israel amidst the conflict with Palestine. The initial 45-day closure was extended, preventing journalists from reporting within the country. Al Jazeera has relocated most operations to Jordan, where they continue broadcasting from Amman.
The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemned the Israeli actions, labeling them as violations of press freedom and solidarity with Al Jazeera. The Israeli army’s accusations of “terrorism” against the network have been denied.
