Israel attacks Lebanon as Hezbollah launches deepest rocket strikes since start of Gaza war

The Israeli military has launched airstrikes on southern Lebanon in response to Hezbollah’s deep rocket attacks into Israel, escalating tensions and fueling fears of a wider conflict. The Israel Defense Forces targeted hundreds of sites in Lebanon as sirens blared in northern Israel warning of Hezbollah rocket attacks. Despite most rockets being intercepted, one Israeli man was injured by shrapnel. Hezbollah claimed to have hit an Israeli airbase near Haifa with dozens of missiles in retaliation for Israeli attacks on Lebanon.

Israeli defense minister Yoav Gallant declared a “new phase” in the war with Hezbollah, praising the Mossad intelligence agency for its achievements. Meanwhile, US and UN officials have warned against further escalation, with airlines canceling flights to Lebanon. The conflict has also spilled into Gaza, where Israeli forces bombed a school shelter, killing civilians.

As tensions escalate, the US embassy urged Americans in Lebanon to depart. The ongoing conflict between Hezbollah and Israel has left hundreds dead and turned border regions into dangerous buffer zones. The situation remains unpredictable, with the potential for further violence looming.
