Israeli Knesset Member Turns Down Offer for Defense Minister Post
Israeli Knesset member Gideon Sa’ar announced that he will not be taking up the position of defense minister, which was offered to him by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Sa’ar, who is the head of the New Hope Party, declined the offer to replace Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
Sa’ar’s decision came after disagreements between Netanyahu and Gallant over the approach to escalating tensions with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. While Gallant advocates for diplomatic efforts, Netanyahu is pushing for a military campaign.
Israel is currently on high alert following a deadly attack in Beirut’s southern suburb that killed at least 38 people. Hezbollah confirmed that 16 of its members were killed in the Israeli strike.
The conflict between Hezbollah and Israel has been ongoing since the war in Gaza last year. The recent events have heightened tensions in the region.
