The budget for the investigation and evaluation of marine radioactivity by the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission has been slashed by more than half for next year. This reduction puts the Fukushima contaminated water radioactive contamination investigation project at risk of being suspended from September next year.
Despite a budget allocation of 671.8 billion won for next year’s response to the Fukushima contaminated water, concerns about the safety of the Korean people due to the release of the contaminated water remain significant. According to a recent survey, 75% of respondents expressed concerns about the contamination of marine and aquatic products due to the release of Fukushima contaminated water.
In response to these ongoing concerns, lawmaker Noh Jong-myeon emphasized the essential need for continuous and precise inspections. He vowed to secure additional funding to ensure the thorough investigation of Fukushima radioactive water to safeguard public health and the environment.
As the debate continues, the echoes of public anxiety surrounding the Fukushima water discharge issue persist, highlighting the necessity for rigorous monitoring and thorough assessments to address these valid safety concerns.
