South Sudan Council of Churches Calls for Peace and Unity

The South Sudan Council of Churches has made a passionate plea to political leaders to prioritize peace and unity in the war-torn nation. During a press conference in Juba to mark the International Day of Peace, religious leaders emphasized the importance of collaboration between leaders and citizens in building a peaceful society.

The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of South Sudan, Rt Rev James Makuei Chuol, emphasized the need for peace as a fundamental necessity for the wellbeing of the South Sudanese people. He urged political leaders to engage with citizens to ensure a sustainable peace process.

Bishop James Alexander Legos of the Africa Inland Church echoed these sentiments, calling on the government to focus on citizen-driven policies and economic stability to address poverty and create job opportunities. He also praised the government’s efforts to engage with holdout groups in the peace process.

Celebrated annually on September 21, this year’s theme for International Peace Day is “Cultivating a Culture of Peace”. The call for unity and peace by the South Sudan Council of Churches serves as a reminder of the importance of working together for a peaceful and prosperous future.
