China is rapidly catching up with the United States in medical research publications, driven by government policies and advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), as stated by a top scientific publisher.
Marie Souliere from Frontiers, a leading academic publisher, revealed that China’s research output has surpassed the US, especially in the medical field. In 2019, China overtook the US in medicine-related articles, with a 22% share, which has now grown to around 40%.
In 2023, Chinese researchers published 15,158 medicine articles through Frontiers, a substantial increase from 2019. The country’s focus on cancer research, particularly in oncology and immunology, has gained momentum since 2010 due to policy changes and innovation investments.
China’s progress in medical research signifies its growing influence and contribution to global healthcare advancements, highlighting its commitment to scientific innovation.
