Abia State Set to Hold Local Government Elections on November 2, 2024
ABSIEC, the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, has announced the timetable for the upcoming council poll in the state. The election is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 2, 2024.
Party primaries will begin on September 25 and end on October 4, with the submission of candidate lists by political parties following from October 5 to October 7. Screening of candidates will be conducted between October 8 and October 10, with appeals and complaints hearings set for October 11 to 12.
Substitution and screening of candidates will take place on October 14 and 15, followed by the final publication of candidate lists on October 16. Election campaigns will run from October 18 to October 31.
ABSIEC Chairman, Professor George Chima, assured stakeholders of a fair and transparent election process. While the commission will use INEC’s voters’ register, the use of BIVAS machines has been ruled out. Both conventional and non-conventional security measures will be employed for the smooth conduct of the exercise.
Political parties have been urged to cooperate and adhere to the timetable for a successful election. The Chairman of Abia State Inter-party Advisory Council, Hon. Nelson Uluocha, expressed confidence in ABSIEC’s preparations, promising full cooperation from political parties in the state.
With the goal of ensuring a credible and acceptable election, ABSIEC is ready to oversee the process with neutrality and integrity.
