Tragedy struck in the Bay of Bengal as a trawler carrying 17 Indian fishermen capsized during a storm, leaving nine feared dead. The incident occurred near Bagher Char island after the trawler was overwhelmed by high waves, leading to its capsizing. Eight fishermen were rescued by another trawler, but the nine who were asleep below deck remain missing.
An Indian Coast Guard vessel managed to tow the trawler back to land, where the survivors were reported to be in stable condition. The Sundarbans, a UNESCO world heritage site known for its mangrove forest, is a hub for thousands of fishermen, though the onset of the monsoon season brings risky weather conditions.
