45 dead in Beirut after Israeli airstrike

The death toll from Friday’s Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut has tragically risen to 45, as confirmed by the Lebanese Health Ministry. Recovery efforts are ongoing, with forensic teams collecting samples for DNA testing from unidentified victims in hospitals. The strike, which targeted a building with four rockets, also caused the collapse of neighboring structures.

The Israeli army reported the assassination of a prominent Hezbollah military leader, Ibrahim Aqil, and other senior commanders. Hezbollah confirmed the loss of 16 members, including Aqil and top commander Ahmed Wahbi. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant declared a “new phase” in the war with Hezbollah.

Hezbollah and Israel have been in conflict since the Israeli war on Gaza began, resulting in a devastating death toll. This recent escalation underscores the ongoing tensions in the region and the high stakes involved. The situation remains precarious as both sides navigate a delicate balance of power and retaliation.
