400K+ homes to get fuel allowance in 80 chars

Good news for over 400,000 households in Ireland as the Government’s fuel allowance payments kick off this week. Introduced in the late 1980s to assist pensioners and long-term social welfare recipients with winter heating costs, the scheme has now been extended due to the rising cost of living.

Recipients can expect a weekly rate of €33 or opt for two payments of €462 each. Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys highlighted the crucial role of the payment in helping families meet their heating expenses during the cold months.
