1 dead, 7 missing in Central Japan floods due to heavy rains – Other Media updates

Devastating floods hit the west coast of central Japan after a large quake on New Year’s Day. A dozen rivers overflowed, causing one death, three missing persons, and two serious injuries in Ishikawa. The land ministry workers were also missing after a landslide while restoring a road in Wajima.

Landslides blocked roads, inundated buildings, and left thousands of households without power or water. Communication services were cut off for some residents as well. Evacuation orders were issued for over 60,000 people in Wajima, Suzu, Noto town, Niigata, and Yamagata prefectures.

The Japan Meteorological Agency warned of a “life-threatening situation” with unprecedented heavy rainfall in the affected areas. Rescue operations were hindered by landslides, adding to the challenges faced by the affected communities.

Despite the difficult circumstances, rescue workers were determined to reach those in need to ensure their safety and well-being in the aftermath of the natural disaster.
