US considers sending Ukraine medium-range missiles for F-16s per Politico

The United States is poised to send Ukraine medium-range missiles to enhance its defense capabilities, as detailed in a recent Politico report on Sept. 20. This move is part of a $375 million military aid package that represents the largest amount of U.S. military support for Ukraine since 2024. Among the potential components of this aid package is the Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW), a glide bomb with a range of over 70 miles.

While the contents of the package are subject to change, reports suggest it may also include patrol boats, ammunition, artillery shells, and spare parts. The JSOW, although not as long-ranged as the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS), provides F-16 pilots the ability to maintain a safe distance from frontline and Russian air defense systems during operations. This support comes as Ukraine has recently deployed F-16 jets and faced challenges, including the loss of an aircraft during combat. With ongoing discussions around potential military aid enhancements, the U.S. remains a crucial ally in Ukraine’s defense strategies.
