In Turkey, the debate over the state’s involvement in Azerbaijan’s oil sales to Israel is intensifying, with activists protesting against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s actions.
Recently, two Palestinian activists holding an anti-government banner during a TV show on TRT News faced deportation. This incident led to their arrest, along with two Turkish activists, by the authorities.
The banner demanded Erdogan to stop feeding oil to Zionists and end complicity in genocide, resulting in charges of insulting the president under Article 299.
Highlights:
The protests mainly focus on the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, through which Azerbaijan supplies Israel with crude oil, representing 40% of its oil imports between October 2023 and July 2024.
While Turkey shows support for Palestine, it maintains its ties with Azerbaijan to safeguard its crucial role in the pipeline. The Turkish government has not taken significant steps to address the issue and activists continue to face threats of deportation.
Activists from 1000 Youth for Palestine emphasize the importance of action against collaborators of Israel, advocating for solidarity with Palestinians through collective efforts to end complicity.
