A South Korean doctor has been arrested for creating and circulating a “blacklist” of colleagues who did not participate in an ongoing walkout over medical training reforms. This conflict has been ongoing for over six months and has led to the deaths of emergency patients due to lack of medical personnel.
The doctor was taken into custody for compiling a list of coworkers who had returned to work or stopped participating in the walkout, then sharing it through messaging apps with malicious intent. The head of South Korea’s main doctors’ association met with the detained doctor, placing blame on the government for the situation.
KMA chief Lim Hyun-taek expressed that everyone involved, including the arrested doctor, are victims in this conflict. This arrest sheds light on the deep-rooted issues within the medical community in South Korea.
