The recent demonstration in Waajid, South West State, saw people expressing opposition to Egyptian troops while supporting Ethiopia. The unrest has disrupted transportation and prompted government interventions to calm the situation.

As Somalia prepares for a transition in its peacekeeping mission, disagreements over the presence of Ethiopian forces have escalated. The federal government’s plan to deploy Egyptian troops in place of Ethiopians has met resistance from several regions, showcasing a clear divide within the country.
