The government of Serbia has officially decided to reintroduce conscription after 14 years, aiming to bring back compulsory military service for men lasting 75 days.
A working group has been formed to oversee the process, with women still having the option to serve voluntarily. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic believes this reform will help modernize the armed forces and enhance defense capabilities against potential threats.
The decision comes amidst growing tensions between Serbia and Kosovo, prompting fears of escalation. Despite not being a NATO member, Serbia maintains working relations with the alliance. The country emphasizes its military neutrality in the face of conflicts between NATO and Russia, while also affirming its strong historical ties with Moscow and refusal to participate in Western sanctions.
