Sarajevo Youth Protesting Subsidies for Apartments

A wave of protests continues in Sarajevo as young people express their dissatisfaction with the government’s decision to reduce housing subsidies from 10,000 BAM to 4,800 BAM. The initial subsidy amount of 5.5 million BAM was redistributed to only 1,142 applicants, leaving many feeling misled by the Canton Sarajevo Government’s changed competition criteria.

Despite Prime Minister Nihad Uk’s statement that there are no additional funds available to meet the initial subsidy amount, the youth remain steadfast in their resolve to fight for fair treatment. They vow to continue protesting until their demands are met, with the possibility of new gatherings on the horizon.

Today’s protests echo the sentiment that the government must prioritize the needs of its young population and uphold their promises. As tensions rise, the future of housing subsidies in Canton Sarajevo remains uncertain.
