The PTI’s Lahore power show ended with a whimper as lights went out and police cleared the stage after the 6pm deadline expired, leaving it empty. Despite speeches from leaders, the rally at Kahna on the Ring Road did not meet expectations.
Earlier, supporters used their cellphones to light up the venue while the sound system was turned off. The party had faced obstacles in obtaining permission for the rally, eventually holding it at Kahna instead of the desired Greater Iqbal Park.
However, the event faced challenges as leaders like Ali Amin Gandapur and Omar Ayub arrived late or did not make it on time. The stand-off between PTI and the Punjab government finally ended with 43 conditions to be met for the rally.
Detention orders were issued for PTI leaders
Five PTI leaders, including Akmal Khan Bari, were detained under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance. The government set 43 conditions for the rally, including a public apology from CM Gandapur for a controversial speech.
Despite the hurdles, PTI managed to hold the rally, though not without issues. The event, which had been a source of controversy, finally took place under strict conditions.
