PTI seeks SC clarification on NA speaker’s letter to ECP’s effect on reserved seats in Pakistan

PTI Petitions Supreme Court for Clarification on Reserved Seats Verdict

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has taken its concerns to the Supreme Court regarding the implementation of reserved seats for women and non-Muslims in the wake of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq’s letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). This move comes after the Supreme Court’s July verdict declaring PTI eligible for reserved seats, giving a boost to its presence in the legislature.

The PTI’s stance was further backed by a recent court order reprimanding the ECP for not implementing the July 12 judgment, complicating the government’s efforts led by Shehbaz Sharif. In response to Sadiq’s letter claiming the judgment cannot be implemented, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan presented a petition calling it an obstruction to the court’s verdict.

The PTI petition seeks clarification that the amended Elections Act does not supersede the court’s ruling on reserved seats, emphasizing the need for ECP to honor the court’s decision. The party also urges a halt on the allocation of reserved seats until the matter is resolved, showing its determination to uphold the rule of law.
