A legal advocacy group, ICJP, is urging the BBC to remove board member Robbie Gibb due to his connection to the Jewish Chronicle, recently involved in a scandal with fake Gaza stories. ICJP claims Gibb failed to uphold editorial standards while directing the Jewish Chronicle, putting the BBC’s reputation at risk.
The scandal involved fabricated quotes allegedly from Israeli officials in Gaza, leading to the retraction of articles. Freelance reporter Elon Perry’s credibility was questioned, casting doubt on the supposed explosive revelations. As a result, the Jewish Chronicle severed ties with Perry and apologized for the incident.
Gibb, previously the Jewish Chronicle’s owner and director, is now under scrutiny for his BBC board position. The ICJP questions his impartiality and ability to contribute to editorial standards, especially regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict. The Muslim Council of Britain also raised concerns about Gibb’s role, emphasizing the need for objectivity in BBC’s decision-making.
Despite Gibb’s resignation from the Jewish Chronicle, his past connections continue to fuel speculation about his influence at the BBC.
