He will also condemn the “narrow interests” and “abuses of power” that have weakened the UN since its inception in 1945.
Apart from his speech at the summit, President Higgins will engage in bi-lateral meetings during the UN General Assembly high-level week. Taoiseach Simon Harris and Tánaiste Micheál Martin will also attend the UN General Assembly, focusing on crises in the Middle East, Ukraine, and Sudan. Harris emphasized the need for immediate action in the Middle East, calling for a ceasefire and hostage release deal.
