The leaders of Cyprus, France, and Greece are set to meet in New York to discuss the Israel-Cyprus-Greece power grid connection and Eastern Mediterranean developments. Cyprus’ government spokesman confirmed the upcoming meeting, highlighting the significance of the Great Sea Interconnector project which will link the three countries’ grids through a 1,208-kilometer submarine power cable.

Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the project and regional stability in a phone call. They expressed concerns about the situation in the Middle East and emphasized the importance of de-escalation. The leaders also discussed the project’s role in advancing the European Union’s energy strategy.

A joint meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is scheduled during the UN General Assembly, followed by another meeting in Cyprus. The Med9 meeting will address common EU interests among Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Spain, Croatia, and Slovenia.
