Mitsotakis calls for removal of dissenting MP from ND group

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is calling for the expulsion of New Democracy MP Marios Salmas from the ruling party’s parliamentary group due to ongoing criticism of the government. Salmas, known for his frequent confrontations with Mitsotakis, recently accused the government of manipulating bids for catering services, prompting the Prime Minister to take action.

Despite previous warnings from Mitsotakis following criticism in June, Salmas continued to challenge the government’s ethics, leading to his imminent expulsion. The decision, which will be finalized by the party’s disciplinary commission, will reduce the ruling party’s parliamentary group to 156 members.

Salmas, a longstanding New Democracy MP, has a history of controversial statements and actions, including opposing the legalization of same-sex marriage and raising concerns about delinquent debtors. His expulsion follows a similar incident involving another MP, highlighting the party’s commitment to maintaining discipline.

Overall, this move reflects the government’s efforts to uphold unity and loyalty within the New Democracy party, despite internal dissent.
