A man has been arrested in Italy in connection with the 1977 murders of Suzanne Armstrong and Susan Bartlett at their home on Easey Street, Melbourne. The 65-year-old suspect, a dual citizen of Australia and Greece, was apprehended at an airport in Rome on Thursday night.
Armstrong and Bartlett, aged 27 and 28, were found stabbed to death in their Collingwood home. A teenager carrying a knife near the crime scene had fled to Greece when asked for DNA, eluding extradition due to local laws. However, after 16 years, he was arrested in Rome and faces extradition to Victoria.
Chief Commissioner Shane Patton praised the homicide detectives for their dedication to the case, expressing hope that the families of the victims find closure after decades of waiting for answers.
