FDO seeks bids for aquaculture market study to drive growth

Exciting news for aquaculture enthusiasts in Oman! Fisheries Development Oman (FDO) is seeking qualified companies to participate in a tender for a market study on shrimp and tilapia aquaculture in the sultanate. This initiative is part of FDO’s mission to promote sustainable economic diversification within the commercial fishing and aquaculture industries.

As a state-owned company under Oman Investment Authority, FDO plays a crucial role in supporting the goals of Oman Vision 2040 by enhancing the national economy and empowering the private sector in these key industries. Qualified companies have until October 2 to submit their bids for the tender.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources reports a significant growth in farmed fish production in Oman, reaching 5,117 tonnes valued at RO15.1mn by August this year. This represents a 7% increase in volume and a remarkable 50% rise in financial value compared to the previous year. The industry has shown consistent growth since 2018, with an expanded variety of farmed species including white shrimp, Omani abalone, and various types of finfish.
