In a recent tragic incident in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, Russian troops committed a war crime by attacking representatives of the Red Cross. The attack, which took place in the village of Viroliubivka, resulted in the death of three Red Cross workers and injuries to two others.
Law enforcement officers have identified the type of weapons used in the attack, including high-explosive artillery shells and a Lancet loitering munition, which are exclusively used by the Russian Armed Forces. The deliberate nature of the attack was confirmed by Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin.
The investigation revealed that the firing positions of the Russian artillery units were likely near the village of Yahidne. The 1065th Artillery Regiment of the 98th Airborne Division and the Artillery Unit of the 200th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade are believed to be involved in the hostilities in the region.
The pre-trial investigation into the war crime is ongoing. The international community condemns such actions and calls for justice for the victims. #StandWithUkraine
