Congress women protest in Doon against rising crimes on women in Uttarakhand

The women’s wing of the Uttarakhand Congress recently led a march to the chief minister’s residence to protest against the rising crime against women in the state. Despite their efforts, the police stopped the march, leaving the protestors unable to reach their intended destination.

The protest, led by Uttarakhand Mahila Congress president Jyoti Gairola, saw scores of Congress members carrying placards and shouting slogans demanding justice for recent incidents of molestation, rape, and murder of women in the state. They specifically highlighted the unsolved murder of resort receptionist Ankita Bhandari and called for a CBI investigation into the case.

Various party leaders, including Pradesh Congress Committee president Karan Mahara and leader of opposition Yashpal Arya, participated in the protest, underscoring the growing insecurity faced by women under the BJP government. The recent cases of violence against women, including the rape and murder of a nurse and a gang rape at a bus stop, further emphasize the need for improved safety measures in the state.
